The San Gabriel Las Palmas hacienda is a construction of the 16th century. At the end of the 18th century, the owner of the hacienda gave freedom to 500 black slaves in order to celebrate the birth of one of his sons. For this reason, these black workers fought on the side of the royal forces in the Independence War, fighting against the rebels (insurgentes).

During the epoche of colonialization, the village of Amacuzac belonged to the Marquesado del Valle de Oaxaca. Between the 16th and the 18th century it lost most of its territories as they were taken away by the San Gabriel Las Palmas hacienda.
